C.J C. NATIONAL MEETING
The Canterbury Jockey Club has rereivtid excellent acceptances for the principal events to be decided at the fort .- oomiug Grand National meeting, and the xniasr event* to be decided at- the gathering
have filled in a satisfactory manner. O\ the 40 horses handicaped in the Winter Oup 13 have dropped out, the most notably of these being Glenaladale, Dundas, Idea!,' and Tortulla. With the defection of tforv tulla our well-known sprinter Blazer move^ into the pride of r>lace. Dunedin. is further represented by Ardnarff, but Jupiter had to decline the engagement, owing to going amiss. In what double bettirig is beinj? dona Blazer is first choice in the Winter Cup, and Siege Gun is as highly thought of at any of the others. The acceptances ret ceived for the Grand National Steeplechase must be gratifying to the handicapper, a< out of the 29 handicapped only six have de< cliaed to continue the engagement. Non^ of those who have dropped out, with thtf exception of Evening Wonder, had many admirers. Of the 46 horses handicapped for the Grand National Hurdles exactly haU have cried content. The dropping out ol Dundas was a blow to early backers, a< Mr Hobbs'6 gelding wa« in great demand for the race. Had he progressed in his training satisfactorily, Dundas would have played an important part in the race, aa he was fencing like an old hand at tho game. Of tho others who have falle-n ouli of the contest none of them were accorded any support in double*. The nominations received for the Junipers' Flat Race suggeaj that that class of rae3 would become populai with the owners of leppeis. In fact, f rom th« horse* engaged, visitors to Ricearton rrfajf see the Grand National Hurdles field tr> conclusions on the flat.
