Port Chalmers Sailors' Rest. TO THE EDITOR.

.Sir. — In your ispue of the 9th July you very kindly drew attention to an appeal of mine on behalf of the above resort for seamen. I had asked for somo £60. Several friends have kindly responded to the amount of £21. I have acknowledged the same as far as known, but please permit me to thank unknown contributors such as " Wellwisher," Dunedin, £5 ; '' Jack x\shore," Shag Point, £1 ; and 10s from Cromwe.ll.

As some £4-0 is still required to put the place in decent repair and reopen free of debt, I should bo very grateful fop the assistance of the friends of f?amen. f may add that aa all the very large steamers, and n>any others, still lie at the Port Chalmers wharfs, there is abundance of room for the benefits and comforts of thip, the original Sailors' Ke«t in Neu Zealand. — I am, etc.,

A. R. Falconeb Yotk place, Dunedin, July 28.
