MAKARORA.
July 16. — Sines I last WTote the wea'her has been all that could be desired. Truly we ha\e had a leniaikabie seseon, and already the weather prophets are promising us an early spring.
Hoisting the Flag. — A very pleasant ceremony took place at the schoolhouse on June 25, when the flag supplied by the E-ciucation Board was hoisted for the first time. Iho flag was drawn up by the chairman, Mr Gandin, when tho children, with all present, gave three hearty ch-eers for the flag, and three for King Edward VII, Queen Alexandra and Mr R. J. Sedcon, after which the National Anthem was heartily sung by all present, Mrs W. K. Grant kindly providing the music.
The Coronation. — Not being aware of tha King's illness our social gathering took place on June 26, as previoiio>y arranged. The weather was everything that we could wish for, and the residents turned out well, there being about 100 on the ground all told. This closed the events for the day. Many thanks are due to the ladie3 who presided at the tables, ard judging fiom the appearance of all concerned belli old and youag enjoyed themselves veiy much. All afterwards retiiad to Mr Campbell's woolshcd, which was nice'v decorated with evergreen 1 ; and flags (thanks to our ycur.g mci) for the occasion. Dancing commenced about 9 p m., Mr J. Langy acting as M.C. and Mrs Campbell, in her usual kind manner, providing refreshments during the evening At an early hour everyone relumed to their homes high y satisfied with themselves and everybody elfre.
Chki'dren's Gathering.— Owing to the chi'dren's books, etc., not coming to hand in time for the social, the distribution took place on the 12th, in Mr Campbell's vroolshed, when about 80, old ai*d young, met and had a very pleasant evening, the books being presented to the school children by Mr J. Faiuks, a, member of the School Committee. The little ones wero then presented with to\s, sw-eets, and fruit in galore. A large display of fiieworks took place in front of the building, much to th-o enjoyment of old and young, when Mrs Campbell, alvrsys £o the fore, provided refreshments and the meeting dispersed.
