THE COLONIAL PREMIERS.
LONDON, July 17. The colonial Premiers were present at Lprd On&low's garden fete at Clandon Park. Sir E. Barton statos that the Marquis of Linlithgow's valedictory letter to Mr Deakin is marked by his usual mood of . feeling and sensibility. Speaking at the Canada Club, Sir E. Barton said that if Canada were the , Empire's grauary, Australia was the Empire's butchery . July 18. The new Vagabond Club (Dr Conan ' Doyle presiding) gave a banquet to Mr Seddon. The latter, responding to the toast of " The Commercial Unity of the Empire," said that if Canada and Australia were the granary and butchery, New Zealand would supply the butter and cheese. The colonies were content to point the way 'to improved relationship. They did not desire to interfere j with fiscal arrangements, but, as between
1 kindred, to give the Motherland's manuI fpctureb preference, leaving her to grant anything in return in her own way, if she was able, and without agreement or causing dissension.
