- That old spirit of friendliness which has always been a prominent characteristic? amongst the farmers of Green Island Bush was demonstrated in a practical manner on Friday last, ■when a large number of the residents turned out with their teams for the purpose of giving a day's ploughing to Mr James Weir, an old and highly respected resident of the Peninsula, ■ulio has taken up land in the district. Conspicuous amongst those present were" Messrs W. Hamilton, J. Campbell, J Knox, J. M'Lean, A. Liddell, J Warnock. R. Irwin, and Masters J. Barnes and J. SproU. There was a keen spirit of rivalry amopgst the various ploughmen, ar><3 pome splendid work was the result. In the evening a. very large assembly gathered in the spaciouc dwelling-house, and' a very enjoyable time was spent. Musical items were rendered by the majority of the p'.oughmsn, and, though scarcely calculated to favourally -mprc-ss the modern, up-to-datf critic, they appealed to be appreciated, and encores were the order of the evening. Special pr,:ise is due to Messrs Hamilton, Kr.ox, and Sprott, with whom the idea formerly or'frir.ate^, and who displayed untiring energy in inakijig the affair the sin cess that it was.
