SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
The monthly meeting of the School CommisS'o\eis for Otrgo v.as held on the 13th, and attended by Messrs D. Barion (chauman), A. Baldey, T. Mac Gibbon, AY. Dallas, and D. Borne.
It was decided to rescind that portion of a lesolution passed on October IS, 1887 dealing v,i*h the Otago and Waitaki Hitrh Schools, making the distribution of the revenues iiom secondary education reserves between these schools,, and that a committee meeting of the board be held on August 18 to deal with the allocation of revenue for them.
Mi C. S. Longuet, or. behalf of Mrs M Snod.s,raß-., applied for consent to transfei leap- of sections - !6, 45, and 46, block I, Marikura t< \vnship, to Mrs H. Fraser.— Granted.
Messrs W. M'lvor, sen., and R. M'lvor applied for a yearly coal license over an area of 5 acres on the site of present licenses held by them on mn 254b, Waikaia. — Granted, on payment of royalties to the commissioner-?.
Messrs Edward and Charles Vial applied for the right to mine for lignite on land adjoining section 1, block X, Wuikaia, for one year — Granted, subject to consent of Governor, at a xent of 20s per acre.
The Secretary to the Education Board of Southland applied for the reservation oi pait of sei tion P.U. block VIII, Jacob's Kivei Hundred, as .i school site —Refei led to the Southland agent foi report. It was decided to offer section 2, block 11, Wyndham di->Uict, for lca=e at 'Wyndham on the 31st inst. at an up=et of 3s 3d per acre. Mrs M D. M'Kenzie wiote stating that she could not c cc her way to gi\e more than Is 3d per acre for a yearly lca c e of (-cc lion 65, block I, Waikaia — Declined, the comnii = sionei s being prepared to accept 2s 6d per acre, subject to consent of Governor, valuation to be allowed for boundary fencing.
The Secretary reported on allotments 1, 2, 3, and 4 of section 53, b'oi k IV, Maungatua (Momona Settlement), and recommended thdt the commissioners join with the Government in pro\u]ii:g means to carry off the surface water. — The commissioners agreed to pay onethird of the cost of the nece^ary pumping plant, pro\ ided that the settlc-rs maintain it in working order.
