MIXED MARRIAGES IN NEW SOUTH WALES.
Some interesting figures are given in Mr Coghlan's latest census bulletin on the subject of mixed marriages in New South Wales. The relative religions of husbands and wives are set foith, along with the number of husbands and wives married to partner* of their own and otiier religions " For instance, it is shown that some 70,b© Church of England husbands are married to Church of England wives, 8043 to Roman Catholic wives, 2078 to Presbyterians, 1738 to Methodifcts, 280 to Baptists" 303 to Congregationaliats, 29 to Lutherans, 12 to Unitarians, 159 to Salvationists, 67 to Jews, 12 to Freethinkers, 11 to other non-Christians, and 80 to wives making no religious prolession, or objecting to state their religion.
Some 4E67 Roman Catholic husbands married Church of England wives, 31,497 married Roman Catholic wives, 544 married Presbyterians, 357 married Methodists. Z6 married Baptists, 60 married Congregationalists, 36 married Lutherans, and 17 Jew?. Among Presbyterians, 2719 were marrixl to Anglican wives, 1196 to Roman Catholics. 13,742 to Presbyterians, 424 to Methodists. 83 to Baptists, 67 to Congregationalism, 15 to Lutherans, and 11 to Jews.
Among Methodists, 1485 were manied to Anglican wives, 54-8 to Roman Catholics, 322 to Presbyterians, 16.536 to Methodists, 107 to Baptists, 62 to Congregationalists, and 90 to Salvation Army wives.
With Baptists, 275 married Anglicans, 52 Methodists, 65 Presbyterians, 110 Methodists, 1856 Bantiets, and 32 Congregationalisms-
Threw hundred and ninety-three Congregationalists married Anglican wives, 101 Roman Catholics, 66 Presbyterians, S3 Methodists, 44 Baptists, and 2954 Congregationalists.
Four hundrtd and three Lutherans married Anglican wives, 251 married Roman Catholics, 73 Presbyterians, 86 Methodists. 12 Baptists, 21 Congregationalists, and 623 Lutherans.
Sixty-two Unitarians married Anglican wives, 15 Roman Catholics, 9 Presbyterians, 11 Methodists, 5 Baptists, 6 Congre-gational-ists, and 84 Unitarians.
Sixty-seven Salvationists married Anglictns, 12 Roman Catholics, 7 Presbyterians, 53 Methodists, 12 Baptist*, 1078 Salvationists.
One hundred and fifty-one Jews married Anglicans, 62 Roman Catholics, 13 Presbyterians, 13 Methodists. 1 a Baptist. 2 Conferegationalists. and 781 Jews.
Among Freethinkers, Agnostics, and infidels, 346 married Anglican wives, 165 Roman Catholics, 50 Presbyterians, 73 Methodists, 9 Baptists, 15 Congregationalists, 7 Lutherans, 3 Unitarians, and 4 Jews.
The figures relating to the respective numbfcre of husbands and wives of each period of age ghes the largest number of husbands — viz., 34, 469— between (he ages of 50 and 35 ; and the largest number of wives — viz., 34,574 — between the ages of 25 and 30. The- youngest husbands recorded wore two Lascar boys, aged respectively 11 and 12 years, who were on board an Indian troopship in Sydney Harbour. Two wives returned their ages a* 14 years, and eight fct 15. There were three husbands and 82 ■wivey returned as \inder 16; 11 and 278 respectively as under 17 ; 20 and 742 respectively as under 18; 103 and 1452 as under 19; 535 and 2275 as under 20. Of married por*ons over 60 years of asre, there were 946; 207 over 85 and under 90; 51 over 90 and under 95 ; eight over 95 and under 100. One husband was letumed at the age of 101, and one wife at the age of 107.
