Miss Ethel Mendelson (Temuka) is visiting Mrs J. M. Ritchie at "'Balvraid.'' Mrs Maude (Oamaru) is also a guest of Mrs Ritchie. Mrs and the Misses Hart left last week for Melbourne, where they will spend some months' time. Miss E. Gilkison has also gone to pay visits in Victoria. Miss M'Keilar returned last week by the s.s. Waikare, after having been to Fiji, Auckland, etc. Miss Hoyse and Miss Twigg (Napier) returned from Invercargill last week. Miss Twigg is at present the guest of Mrs J. E. Sinclair, in Manor Place. Miss Olive Kettle has returned to her home in Christchurch. Mrs Woodhouse has issued invitations for a, ball to be held on Friday, 18th inst. , •m fhe Victoria Hall. Miss Woodhouse will make her debut on this occasion. JNVERCABGrLL, July 14. Up to the present we have had beautiful winter weather, but during the past week Tain set in, and it looks as if it may continue for some time. The streets aYe in a dreadful state of mud and filth, and it is >with 9ifficulty persons can wend their vay about, consequently society matters are rather at a standstill. Miss Twigg and Miss Royse left by Saturday's express for Dunedin. Mr T. E. Walton, of Dunedhi, is at present visiting Invercargill. Mr W. H. BTent returned from Christchurch by Saturday's express. Mrs itivnight, ' St. Clair, Dunedin, is at present in Invercargill. Mr J. W. Black has purchased a house in Gala street.
