OUR FIRST.
Tiead softly as ycu pass the loom She he 3 within. Speak not, or whisper but with bated breath — The struggle is 'twixt life and death. Already, high to heavenly home Her babs is borne. Its earthly casket, for a moment worn, Lies cold and still — so was it born. And she, my darling wife, lies there, 'Twixt life and dearth. Will she be spared me, or will she, too, go, Well knowing thai I love her so? How empty life would jseem for me Should she be ta'en. My darling- wife, my little one ; yea, all. At one fell stroke, gone past recall. The dread dispense is o'er at last — She still will live. The little one, to us fov so =hort given, Binds with new bonds om lives to heaven. — Matt. May, 1902.
