(See illustrations elsewhere m this issue.) Otamita (late Sony Creek) is situated at th« foot of the north-east slope of the Hokonuis, aj.oui eight miles from Gore, ov the Waimea I'lains. It ha« a railway station, a post office, and A telephone bureau, also a hotel and chcase and butter factory. The surrounding district is thickly settled by a prosperous conTraimty of larniers ai.d miners. Th«ra are several dredges at york in the vicinity, all oi which are giving handsome returns The disUict is noted -for game-shootmg and trout-fish-ii g, as it is situated on the banks of the Mataura River, and clobe to the famous stream Otamita, the place deriving Ha name <from the latter. During the grain season Otamita presents quite an animated appearance. It is understood that the Government are going to provide more extensive and lughly necessary accommodation 'n the shape of cattle yards and a new post office. There is also a prospect of one or two other business places Wing start-d soon at Otamita
