The maiket was again quiet on Monday, and comparatively little business was done, buyers being apparently disinclined to advance on their previous quotations. The river is falling rapidly, and was 3ft 4in above the normal mark, and the weather was frosty.

For the purpose of showing the alterations in the market during the past week we make a ehort review of a few of the principal stocks. The Alexandra Lepd dredge is now proving her clPiai to be exceedingly rich, and as a consequence the shaies are steadily advancing. On Monday week sales were made at 63 3d, while th& closing quotations were 63 3d and 6s 4id, and additional transactions wero recorded at 6s ljd, Gs 3d, and 63 €d en Thursday, at 63 9d aud 7s on Friday, at 7s on Saturday, and at 7s 3d on Monday, three parcels changing hands at that figure, while more inquiries were made at the same price, but sellers closed at 7s 4Jd. The preference shares were sold at 21s 6d and 22s on Thursday, while the latest buying offer is 23s 6d, without any sellers. As the information regarding the raiding of the Bencligo ladder has been of a varied nature, tho shares have in consequence fluctuated a good deal. Sales were made at 7s on Tuesday, at 7s and 7s 6d on Wednesday, at 9s, 10s, and 9s Gd on Thursday, at 8s 6d,~ Bs, and 7s 6d on Friday, and at 6s on Monday, when the closing quotations were 5s 6d and 6s-9d. Electrics weakened all last week, but recovered on Monday afternoon, when buyers were in the market at 36s with sellers at 375. Endeavours have hardened a little, but Gold Kings have eased a shade. Sales of the latter took placo at 3s 9d on Thursday and Monday, and the latest offer from buyers is 3s 9d, sellers asking 4a 3d. Golden Rivers were sold at 5s on Monday week, when more shares were in demand at that price, holders closing at 5s 3d, and further transactions took place at 5s on Wednesday, at 4s 6d on Friday, and at 4s 7Jd on Monday, more buyers being in the market at the last-named price, with sellers at Bs. Junction Electrics have weakened a good deal since the sinking of the No. 1 dredge. Sales were made at ISs 6d on Monday week, at 15s 9d, 15s 6d, 14s 6d, and 14s en Tuesday, at 13s 6d, 13s, nnd 13s 6d on Wednesday, at 13s 6d on Thursday, at 15s 6d and 15s 3d on Friday, and at 15s on Saturday, while on Monday shares were wanted at 14e, with sellers at 15s. Buyers of Manuherikias have offered from 30s 6d to 335, while sellers have asked from 33s to 375. A transaction was effected at 83s on Friday. Meg and Annies have been steady, buyers being in the market at 15» and 15s 6d, while holders have wanted from 15s> 9d 'to 16s 6d. Two parcels were taken up on Tuesday at 15s 9d and 16s. In consequence of the good returns from the Molyneux Kohinoor dredge that stock has improved somewhat, and a good deal of business has been done. Sales took place at 3s Cd dis. on Monday week, on Wednesday, and on Thursday, at 3s dis. on Friday and Saturday, and at 2s 6d dis. on Monday, while the latest quotations are 3s and 2s 6d dis. Monte Chnstoes advanced until Friday, but since that time buyers have tcceded a little. One lot of shares was taken up at 20s on Friday. North Beaches have been steady, sales being pffected at 12s 9d on Wednesday, and at 12g 9d on Satuiday, while the quotations on Monday wero 12s 3d and 13s. No Town Creeks were steady all last week, buyers offering from 34s 6d to 35a Cd, while holders -wanted from 36s to 375, but tho former dropped back to 33s on Monday, while the litter closed at 365. Old Dunstans have been very steady, and sales were recorded at 3s 3d on Monday week, and at 3s and 3g ljd on Wednesday. Olrigs have been steady, but buyers and sellers have never corrr-e to terras, and Pactolus shares have been in the market at from 74s to 755, whilo buyers have offered horn 70s to 725. On Monday week Rise and Shines wero sold at 225, the closing quotation* that day bejng, 22a and 22s 4Jd, but buyers have now come down to 21s, while sellers have advanced to 235. Sailor's Bends have weakened, buyers dropping from 33s 9d to 30s, and sellers from 36s to 335. Unitys were weak all last week, but firmed a little on Monday, when a paicel wafe taken up at 17s 6d, with further buyers at that price and sellers at 18s.
