ilay 29.— Thi3 month will be long remembered for its severe gales of cold wind and snowstorms. It has been continual storms for /the last three weeks, and such Tough weather 'coming so early in the season makes every appearance- of a. long winter. The early snow ihas made the farmers stock their turnips earlier than usual. The turnip crops are not bo large as in some years, and will consequently not stand as much eating — more is /the pity, as the demand for fat stock is improving and prices are good. There are irosioU3 inquiries for freezing wethers. There are a few good lines in the district, but they kre not numerous. The rough weather has been very much retarding threshing. There are three mills in the district, but they are making very slow progress, the shifting taking up a lot of time on account of the wetness of the paddocks. The traction engine makes a terrible mess of the ground, causing the farmers to look back on the times when they used to do the shifting wifti their horse?. It was done much quicker then, and a g. - «at oeal less ground was cut un. Good Returns. — Tbeie are some good yield* this year. Mr T.
