Notes from Reef ton. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
REEFTON, May 31. Alpine. — The mine manager reports : " The ciosscut in No. 7 has been extended Bft for the week, making the total distance- 32ft. The ground is still hard, with a little water coming irom it. Tenders have been called for extending the main level 100 ft in No 11 crosscut. From the intermediate to Quinn's Pass is in far enough to connect once I get the stopes extended further north. In the south -end of stope I have had to bring up a branch pass to follow the strike of stone, as it goes up south. With this done I will have no trouble in getting more stone out. For the week X have sent 40 tons of stone to the battery. Latest Quotations. — Alpine Extended, 3s, 3s Gd; Big Biver, 9d, 3s; Keep-it-Dark, 18s, 20s; ' Progress Mines, 19s, 21s; Rirwan's fieward, 7a 3d, 7s 9d; New Scotia (vendors), 3s 6d, 4s; New Scotia (contributing), Is 3d, Is 6d; Industry, 3s, 3s 6d*; Golden Lead, Is, Is 3d. The Hocklands dredge is again working. ■ Owing to a rise in the river the dredge refloated , to all appearances wAh very little damage. The dredgemaster is opening up again where, tno best prospects were obtained, and gold was heavier: The Welcome dredge met with a heavy piece of ground, which retarded progress for a few days. She is now on good wash, end good returns are looked for. The Kohikohi Company are constructing a> dam to secure a better stippiy of water, which. i 3 at present a gTeal- drawback to successful working. The Old Diggings dredge has been shifted ' to another part of the claim, and is engaged opening up again. A fresh caused? some delay, - and the river is still rising and falling, which, prevents much actual dredging. The Eldorado pontoons show serious signs of v/ealher action.- From a statement laid before . shareholders lately the position, of the com— pany is not encouraging. The Buller Junction dredge -is again work- . ing steadily. She was stopped ,come time for want of fuel. • , The Keep-it-Dark Company for May crushed 1034 tons ior 3030z gold, and from, cyanide obtained 1220z gold, making a total of 4250z.
