At the annual meeting of the Nelson Acclimatisation Society it was resolved to ask the Government to remove the protection from stoats and weasels, and that other societies be requested to co-operate and pay a reward for the destruction of these animals. The fishing license was fixed at 12s bd. Resolution* to appoint rangers for the whole colony by contributions from associations and the Government were rejected, 'the contention being that honorary rangers were pledged to watch the interests of sport alone. The effective fishing season was fixed as usual, except in regard to matai, which is limited to four months. It was resolved to release 80,000 trout fry in the rivers, and to endeavour to rear 20,000 locally, thus resuming fish-culturo.
