At the annual meeting of the Nelson Acclimatisation Society it was resolved to ask the Government to remove the protection from stoats and weasels, and that other societies be requested to co-operate and pay a reward for the destruction of these animals. The fishing license was fixed at 12s bd. Resolution* to appoint rangers for the whole colony by contributions from associations and the Government were rejected, 'the contention being that honorary rangers were pledged to watch the interests of sport alone. The effective fishing season was fixed as usual, except in regard to matai, which is limited to four months. It was resolved to release 80,000 trout fry in the rivers, and to endeavour to rear 20,000 locally, thus resuming fish-culturo.
A shooting party at Teddington, Canterbury, on Thursday, shot 153 hares and a number of quail.
A social was held at Clifton on Wednesday evening to welcome home Trooper Farrier Ross, of the Seventh Contingent Ducks are said to be plentiful on Lake Waipori this season. Quite a number of guns have recently been on the lake, and some good bags are reported. The houseboat owned by the proprietor of the White House, Henley, has been moored in the stream adjacent to the lake, the sportsman thus having the advantage of hotel accommodation where formerly he was obliged to transport tents and provisions.

Speaking at a meeting as to Coronation Day celebrations in Wellington last week, Mr Gundy, head teacher of the Clyde Quay School, said that " school teaeher3 on all these occasions have never been consulted until too late." It is probable that the Wellington electric tramways will be constructed on the contract system, and that alternative tenders will be invited for the supply and laying down of the plant and rails, either wholly or in sections.
