! The following are the vital statistics for March, showing the estimated population of boroughs, the number of births and deaths, and the proportion of deaths to the 1000 of the population: —
The total births in the four principal boroughs amounted to 410. aeainst 460 in February, a decrease of 50. To the deaths males contributed 114, females 91. Eightyfive of th© deaths were of children under five years of age, being 41.46 per cent, of the whole number. Seventy-two of these were under ono year of age. There were 49 deatlii of pev-ons of 65 years and upwards. Fourteen men — 65 (3), 67, 63 (2\ 69, 70. 72, 73, 81 (2). 85, 89— and five women— 69, 73, 77, 84 (2),— died at Auckland; oue man — 72 — and four women — 70, 72, 79, 92 — at Wellington ; nine men— 66 (2*, 72 (2), 74, 78, 7S, 80, 84— and five woman— 66, 67 (2), 74, Si — at Christchurch ; eight men — 66 (2). 63, 70. 73, 75, 81. 92— and three women— 6s, 74. 77 — at Dunedin.
