OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Otago A. and P. Society was held in the Board Room, Agricultural Hi'l, on Thursday, and attendod by Messrs Alexander Douglas (president, in the chair), Andrew Todd, A C Stronach, James Shiel, J. C. Gow, J. Nimmo, J. Tough, T. Muir, Jas. Ros^, John Angus, Wm. Souter, Ja^. Gow, Wm. J affray, and the Hon. T Fergus. Apologies wove received from Messrs T Brydone, A. S. Orbell, C. S. Reid, H M. Driver, J. Lethbridge, A. Johnson, D. Andrew, W. Blackie, J. W. Blair, and. H. Buckiand. The Chairman welcomed to the table Mr John Tough, of Milton, a newly-elected member of the committee. In reply Mr Tough thanked the committee for the cordial welcome offered to him, and stated that he would use his best endeavour*, to further the interests of the Otago A. and P. Society in every way. The Secretary of the Reserves Conservation Society (Mr Alex. Bathgate) wrote with leference to shrub and tree-planting at Tahuna Park, and submitted a sketch of the area in which he recommended that trees and shrubs should be planted.— After discussion it was unanimously resolved, on the motion of Mr Andrew Todd, seconded by Mr A. C. Stronach—" That the- secretary arrange a meeting (at an. early date) of the Grounds Committee of the A. and P. Society, Mr Alex. Bathgate, and the chairman of the Ocean Beach Domain Board to proceed to Tahuna Park with a \iew to tarrying out thi^_proposal." Mr A. Chamberlain, Brookside. Canterbury, wrote faying that he had pleasure in presenting to the society a framed picture of several photos of his shorthorn cattle — The thanks of the committee weie accorded to Mr Chamberlain for his Laudsoinr picture. Mr W .T. Biich, Marton, wrote suggesting that the Imperial Government should be approached with the object of appointing a buyer of cavalry horses ; that 6uch buyer should act as judge to attend the various shows; that all horses thought eligible by their owners should bo eligible to enter for a small fee; that the officer or buyer should himself class all exhibits into light and heavy cavalry hor o es or artillery horses, or such other classes as he considers desirable to make ; that prizes be given to the beet in each cla«s by the association ; that the question be brought before the annual conference to deal with, and approach Government with regard to negotiations with the Impc-rial Government. He considered such a sehome. if carried out, would prove of great educational value in the breeding of suitable military horses for various purposes.— The letter was referred to the Agricultural Conference, which cits in Dunedin during show date? (25th. 26th, and 27th June), to consider and deal with. The plans of the proposed grand stand at Tahuua Park, with estimate of same, were laid on the table-, and after considerably discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Jn«. Shiel. seconded by Mr Wm. Souter — " That the Buildings Committee be empowered to make the. necessary arrangements with the Trotting Club, and to proceed with the erection of the grand stand." Accounts amounting to £65 17s 3d were parsed for payment. •Tudge3 in the field turnip competitions were appointed, and they will commence their duties the fir»t week in May.
