AN EBBTIDE THOUGHT.

The fids is out— far out! The sun is low ; The gull's white wings beat restless to and fro, Like human hearts with human love aglow. The west grows led , all red. The day expires. The erstwhile blue-flecked" ocean now aspires To mirror back the sunset's crimson fires. The sky grows grey , all grey. For lo' 'tis night. The east grows radiant to my vvond'ring sight, Artd th' ocean's breast is pierced with silver light. What need we fear, dear heait, Of coming ill? Two things are vast enough our I'ves to fillThat human love is great— God greater still. —Ada. A. R. Ludford. Wellington, April, 1902.
