WAR OFFICE CONTRACTS

The Premier has received the following cable from the Agent-general: — "The War Office is calling for tenders for canned compressed beef aud mutton. The delivery of tenders is to he made on May 26. Delivery" of the meat must be half in June and the other half in October, at "Woolwich. At the requefct of the War Office I am sending detailed specifications. It was represented to the authorities that it was hardly possible that tenders would be forwarded in suffi- < lent time, but the War Office cannot grant any extension."
