Mr J C. Gow wa-> on Thuisday re-elected without opposition to the office of Mayor of Palmer«ton for the fourth time. Mr John Hanna. gymnas\ie master of the Boys' and Girls' High Schools of Otat,o and superintendent of physical culture to the Otago Education Board, returned to Dunedin on Wednesday after his trip to the Home Country. Mr Hanna has lost no time in resuming woik, and on Thursday afternoon conducted his gymnastic classes at the Girls' High School. This week he will lesiime his regular duties. Constable Fouhy, at present stationed at Roxburgh, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to Christchurch. His bucce<bsor at Roxburgh has not been decided upon. I Captain W. Mr George Crichton. who for the past five- years has filled the position of chief cleik in the Dunedin office of the Government Life Insurance Department, has icceived intimation of his transference to the We-t Coast, of which he has been gi\en charge, with headquarters at Greymouth. Mr Crichluii is well known as a courteous and obliging offic cm . but is even better known among the public for hi-j connection with friendly and other societies. The council unanimously voted him a bonus of £50, the councillors speaking eulogistically of the good work clone for the town by their mayor. Mr Major announced that he would distribute the vote among tin local institutions. Mr James Kelly, who unsuccessfully contested the Wakatipu seat at the- last election - will probably again bo a candidate. Mr James Kelman has been elected, un opposed.
