A Prospective Match.—Some playors, on reading the paragraph which appeared in this column on Mtuch 16, expressed the opinion that it was tantamount to a challenge from Mr Gardiner This, by a very natural transition, led to talk about a set match, between Mr D. A. Brodie and Mi Gardiner, and the result is that Mr Brodie authorises U3 to annouace that his friends are prepared to support him in a match with Mr Gardiner (or any other New Zealand player) for a sum of £50, the match to consist of 30 or 40 restricted games. Any communications en this matter may be addressed to Mr D. A. Brodie, care of ths draughts editor of this column. Visitors.—During the holiday* there were, of course, many draughts player 3in town for afew days. Those who looked in at the club included Messrs W. O. Duthie, Quarry Hills, late of Highcliffe; Andrew Toshach, Invercargill; A. M'Curdy, Adams Flat, Bruce, Luggate. An Enthusiast.—Mr J. Shore, of the Taifri, left Dunedm last Saturday en route for New Plymouth, "to pliiy a few friendly games" with Mr J. Bruce. He al=o hopes to cro=: swords with ether players on the way back. There is no doubt rbout Mr Shore's enthusiasm. Mr J. W. Jacobson, the well-known London expert, met with -a sad ncc-ident, having had the ill-fortune to experience a "smash up while cycling.
