RAM AND EWE FAIR.

The annual ram and ewe fair under the auspices of the Otago A. and P. Society was held at Burnside yesterday. The entries wer# not numerous m tht first instance, but tils floods and consequent interruption of railway communication prevented many entries from, arriving, and this, coupled with the uninviting weather, doubtless affected the r.ttendance. The reports appended'will show the*results o.' the bales- — > Messrs Wright, Stenhcnson, and Co. report as follows:—This annual fixture, under tho uuspices of the Otngo Agricultural and Pastoral Society, took place to-day, 25th inst. The entries were vcrj deficient, only seme 309 rams or fo being booked for the fair, and about onethird of the -.umber were detained in transit b- the floods, and -were not offered. Speaking generally, the quality of the stock offered was indifferent, and buyers (cf whom, by the way, there wss a larger attendance than usual) wero disappointed both with the qnnHty of the sheep offered and the paucity of the supplyThe Border Leicester, English Leicester, Romrey Marsh, Shropshire, and' Down breeds were represented, and we offered a small consignment o£ selected inbred halfbrocl fleck rams on. account of Mr James Little (of Hawardenj, Canterbury. These .sheep w%ie much admired, I botu for -thes. wool and symmetry. They ' elicited good competition, and were purchased by representative pastoraliets of Central Qiago. I Only one stud ram (Border - Leicester) was offered. The other entries were mads up entirely cC flock rams, and, considering their quality, they sold well, and every lot was visI'oscd of. Our entries from Messrs lv * A. Nixon (Kiilmchy), William Grey (Miiburu), Thomas Mir.r (Palmei-ston), and M'Kerchar Bros. (Woodlands) were kept bad; by stiess of weather. We sold as follows: — ; Border Leicceters. On account New Zealand and Australian Land Company, Limited (Clydevale estate), 60 two-tooth flock rams at 2igs each. English Leicesters. : On occount of Mr J. R. Mackenzie (Glenlzenich), 18 two-shear flo=k rams at 2Jgs to 3gs each. j Romney Marsh. ; 26 one-shear* flock rams at li]g each. i N Shropshire Downs. 5 three a.id four-year-old flock rams at ljg. Inbred Halfbrcds. ' I On account of Mr James Littie (Hawarden), ', 20 two-tooth flock rams at 3gs to 31gs. _____ \ ' Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report as [ follows:—The ram and ewe fair under tho ! auspices of the Otsgo Agricultural and ; Pastoral Society was held a* the Burnsid.; i Cattleyards on Tuesday, March 25. Unfortu- [ nately, owiiig to the floods id the north, we were only able-to offer 40 out of a total of 120 rams entered. The attendance i>.t the sole wa3 smaller than usual, a considerable number of persons who we know intended to be present being prevented by the wet weather. Border Leicestcrs met with the most inquiry, but the demand for all classes was fairly good. Pricea lealised were on the whole satisfactory, when the ifact is taken into consideration that the i sheep were not looking cheir bjst owing to the ; wet weather, and with one or two exceptions ' the mo«t of them were not really first-class. I We sold 40 on account of the following owners: 1 Mr .T. H. Mackmzie (Pomahaka) 5 two-sh#ar English Leicester rams, at 3gR, ft two-tootli Romney rums, at 2gs : 6 two-shear Shropshire Down rams, »t 2ig& to 2Jgs. New Zealand and Australian Land Company, 14 two-tooth Romney rams. Mr A. Douglas and others, 6 , Shropshire Down and Leicester rams, ljg to 2igs.
