THE TAIERI MEETING.
The weights for the Taien Amateur Turf Club meeting have been declared, and of tl.ose engaged in the President's Handicap I like the appearance of Red Banner at 8.7, Transport at 9.7, and Wild West at 8.13. \ Transport has lib more than when he won the Suburban Welter, one mile, on the second day of the recent D.J.C. meeting. He won easily in lmm 47sec, and behind him were . Vandyke 9.12, Wild We*t 8.13, First Light 9.0, Visionary 8.11, Kfid Banner 8.10, and Spidc- 8.8. With 7.12 in the present handicap Spider, on his beat form, 'ooks remarkably well in. He was racing well at Wingatui at the Cup meeting when he broke t a blood vessel, and this put him out of court. It will be remembered that Transport gave nothing in the Suburban Welter > any show at all in ihe last ccuplc of fur- J longs, and of those whom he beat in that , race Red Banner appears to me to be the most likely one to turn tho tables on him at the Taieri. In the Easter Handicap, I like the appearance of Forward Guard at 8.7. This horse ran well at tho Cup meeting, and besides winning the Maiden Plate he ran a fairly good second to Medus in the Second Hack, when in receipt of 21b from his victor on that occasion. Next to J Forward Guard I like the appearance of Phyrnc at 8.4. In the Flying Handicap, in the light of the form I witnessed Lord Rule display at Naseby, Lawrttiee, ■aad at the D.J.C. Cup meeting, that horse at 8.0 reads , to me as the most likely to furnish the winner. He is quick from the , mark, and has plenty of pace. Had he not run wide at the turn in the race in I which he was beaten by Medus at Wingatui j he would have undoubtedly more seriously j troubled the winner. At the present stage he i^ the only horse I like in the race. • Lord Rule also claims an engagement in j the Trial Stakes, and the rest of the field '; would have to improve a lo£* on their recent ' form to heat him. Of the others Western Bell should prove the best. In the Hack Handicap, Lord Rule also claims an engagement, and next to him in that race I like Patron and St. Ulva. in that order. In the No\el, if Quickshot II should happen to regain some of his old form, he .should be ma«to. of the sitxiation, and next to him Patron lcoks to have a good chance amongst the moderate lot engaged. In the Two-mile Tiot. T take Susie Wild, Plan, and George M. Patcheii. Of the others 1 like none better than PluEbe, at 35=ee. and if she should imprp\e little on her Tahuna Park Trial Handicap—which 1 think she can—*he would lake a great deal of beating. The sanre applies to her chance in the Mile and A-half Trot. Of the others, Dromedary and Crest may prove hard to beat
