Recently a person of pugnacious nature was bound o\cr, on the suit of a certain female, to keep the peace towards her. By the form provided under the Justices of the Peace Act a man bound over to keep the peace towards a particular complainant i" also bound over to keep the peace towards all of his Majesty's lieges Tho individual in question, did not again interfere w ith. the femalo primarily annoyed by him, but he recently pummelled a man with whom he had au altercation. He was subsequently convicted of assault. Now step* are being taken to eotreat the surety (a sum of £30 or £40) of the person who became responsible for the good behaviour of the defendant after his first conviction.— New Zealand Times.
