KEEN DISAPPOINTMENT OVER CANCELLING THE KING'S VISIT. i MR DILLON'S FIERY UTTERANCES. LONDON, March 13. The Globe says that the IrMi League, which sprang from the tiniest beginning, is now like a upas tree, and the Government are afraid to strike. The Freeman's Journal says Ministers are afraid to allow the King to see the barbarous methods of the Castle. There is deep resentment among the people owing to the decision to cancel the King's visit. The Unionist newspapers of Ireland blame the blatant disloyalty of the minority, misrepresenting the real feeling of the Irish, and also blame Mr Redmond for not repudiating the conduct of a section. This clinched the Ministers' decision. Keen disappointment is felt in Belfast and Cork. March 14. In the House of Commons Mr Redmond's amendment to reduce Mr Wyndham's salary wsj,s negatived. Mr Wynclham made a brilliant vindication. He was at present repressing unlawful assemblies and intimidation which was leading to crime. Wherever the League is mischievously active the Government suspends the working of the congested District Board Aot. If juries did not convict offenders, then the Government would be justified in proceeding under the Crimes Aot. Mav-h 15. Mr Dillon, M.P., speaking at Greenock, and commenting on Lord Ro?ebery's statement that the Iri<-h were disloyal and not entitled to self-government, he asked, why, in the name of God. should they be loyal ? They would never be loyal except to a Government re-pon-sible to the Iri^h people. The existing Government had no claim to their allegi- j ance. If the Iri'-h to-morrow were able to overthrow it by physical force they would do so. March 16. Mr John Redmond, M.P., declares that the United Irish League has already persuaded or coerced many graziers to '-ell their land-,.
