MARTOPU BRIDGE ACCIDENT. AUCKLAND, March 10.

Faiticulars of the serious accident at the children's gathering at Martopu show that Hip children crowded on one bide of a wire bridge. Forty persons were precipitated 20ft into the creek, and on shingle. While men plunged into the water to their rescue, many mothers went into hysterics. No lives were lost, but R. Ellis, five years of ago, sustained a fractured thigh ; Adeler Passel, 13, a fractured arm ; Kate Murphy, 15, was badly strained in the shoulder ; Rose Tilton, Lena Austin, and Edward Riddle, severe bruises. There were many marvellous escapes from death.
