GYMNASTICS.

NOTES BY PARALLEL**. As the month of March draws to a close gymnasts begin to look out shoes, singlete, etc , for the coming season. I expect to see the ihfferent gymnasiums better filled than ever this season, aa this .sport i* beginning to appeal to the young, and I think the display given by the clubs connected with the Otago Gymnastic Association will be the taieans of bringing a large number of new member? to the different clubs.

The enthusiasts of th© Dunedin Club have been jogging along quietly during tho summer, keeping in form. T. Fergusson has now gone to Wellington, and will be a big loss to this club. The season will soon be starting again, when I anticipate a big membership The annual meeting i n to be held in about a week'j time.

The High street Club hold their- annual meeting on Thursday evening. Judging by the report, the club has had a very successful season, and it is hoped that the coining one will be as good I hear a few of the members aie going down to the Dunedin this season to put themselves under the able instruction of Cantain Matthews.

The Union street Club aro losing their captain (J. M'Ara), which will be received with regret by the members, as he was a great faxourite. I hear that in all probability H. G Siedeberg will fill the gap, and, if this should prove true, the members can congratulate themselves on getting such, a capable in&tructor The Albany street Club are looking forward to a big seaoon, and I have no doubt that their anticipations will prove coirect. As long as they have men like the Hudson brothers at their head, they will keep things going. The Mornitigton Gymnastic Club are not too =anguine on having a big season. This club has had bad luck in many ways in the past, and I hope the school committee will M them have the gymnasium on better terms than previously. With two such capable instructor* as lan Galloway and Jack Ware», Jhis dub should be as successful as any, and I trust that the young fellows will rally round and take advantage of the great benefit they have at their doors.

I ha-\e not heard of the George --treet and Valley Clubs making a stir yet, but I «uppo 6 e we shall ooon hear of them The Ca\cr»ham Club held their meeting last week, atid from the attendance a big season lo anticipated. It is hoped that this club will become affiliated with the a-"r.ociation this season.

The Anderson's Bay Club expect a meces»ful reason, and their anticipations should pio\e coirect, as they ha\e an enthusiastic lot of membeis, and undei H G Siedeberg they made rapid stride, la<=t season. The High otreet Ladies' Club intend mat ing an caily of art, and expect a moro successful season than last, though last «eason wa<s a great success in e\ery way, thanks to the able instruction of Mips Mowat and the management of their energetic secietary (Mi*& Keam) and the committee. The club expect a large number of new mem be-r-, this -ea.-on, and I feel sure tliat all tho*e ladies who will give tint- meaiio of exercise a. trial will never regret it. Seeing what a successful club tins High otrei t one is, I am surprised that the ladies m the othei districts do not organise a club.

A meeting of tho°e inteiested in and m faiour of the establishment of a co-operative bakery in Invercargill was held on Thursday evening, and was attended by about 20 persons. A motion was carried to the effect that it was desirable that a co-operative bakery should be established in Invercargill, and a piovisional committee formed. A pro-pec tvs was drawn tip setting forth that the shares would be £2 each, no member to hold more than five shares. The objects of the society are to manufacture and distribute bread, to supply such articles of common fon-umption a« the society may from time to time deem advisable, and to purchase and acquire any real and personal property in New Zealand thought desirable for the object of the society.
