A SLANDER REFUTED.
The Rev. F. W. Isitt asked permission ol the Methodist Conference on Monday to make a personal explanation, rendered | necessary by a statement that has been current in what he might call " the lobbies" of the • con- : ference. It had been freely stated . there that he and his brother (L. M. Isitt) had' circulated pro-Boer literature throughout tho colony. He- qquld not speak ,with knowledge concerning his brother-, except to,say that he had himself only received from--'him - one paper specially mentioning this subject, and then incidentally; ,He could, and' clid, flatly deny that he h8,3. circulated any wav literature-on either side.' He had npt'^even seen, so far as he could repember, the leaflet or pamphlet, whichever it might have been, entitled " Stop the War," which ho ■' was credited with having circulated. He had, as many of his brethren knew, frequently publicly expressed his abhorrence of war during the last 15 years at least; but he was" not a pro-Boer.—(Applause.)
