TO CORRESPONDENTS.
Teetius.—Best thanks for your letter. The solution of Problem 1851 is 1 Q-K R 3, not 1 Q-K R 8, which is, as you say, impossible. If 1 R-Q B 1, k x p, and wo do not see any mate. The solution to Problem 1852 begins 1 Q-Q B 5, which seems to be all right. Your solution of Problems 1863 and 1864 are right. R. J. W.—Best thanks for your congratulations and kind assistance in the past and promise as to future assistance. For a fortnight past, and up to the present, it has been impossible to examine the solutions and criticisms with that care and accuracy which are ntcessary in order to do justice to the subject. The same cause has delayed the compilation and announcement of the result of th« solution tourney. You are correct as to the solution of Problem 1852. Shall submit your luggestion as to increasing the prizes for solvers and making the competitions quarterly to the manager of the company. Sorry to know that you are a sufferer ot such distressing chronic ailments. Neither are deadly, but both detract much frcm the enjoyment of life. Solutions of Problems 1857, 1858, 1859, 1860, 1861, and 1862 received" from R. J. W.; of 1857, ISSB, 1859, and 18C0 from G. F. W.
