DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB.
The nonthly meeting of the Dunedin J Jockey Club was held on Tuesday, and j attended by the Hon. George M'Lean (in Mte chair), and Messrs Solomon, Ewing, j I'iionuon, Jlyers, Vigers, Dawson, Grindley, i »nd Mills. Apologies for absence were re- | •ceived from Me3srs Carr, Coughlan, and I PazleU -A letter was received from the Wyndham Hieing Club stating that they had disqualified J. B. Nicol (owner), A. E. Ward (trainer). F. M'Grath (rider), and the horse Boutherly Buster for six months from Ist January, 1902, for pulling in the Hurdle Eace. An appeal was lodged by Mr A. E. Ward Against the Wyndham Club's decision on the ground that he was not the trainer of Southerly Buster. Mr Ward forwarded a "declaration and letter from Mr Nicol in support of his statement, and attended personally, and was examined by the committee — After fully considering the matter, it vii resolved that Mr Ward's appeal be dismissed,' and the action of the Wyndham Club endorsed. A letter was received from the Southland Racing Club reporting that they had disqualified F. Griffen (owner), J. M'Combe j '■(rider), and the mare Eidelweiss for six months from January 2, 1902, for deliberate J 'Bulling in the Waihopai Handicap. Mr j jEkiffen ~ wrote giving full particulars as to 'tlie mare's form from December 26 to Janu- j jttry 23. — After consideration, it was resolved that the disqualification be endorsed. -Mr James Cowan, Cromwell, wrote rejporiing the jockey William Hunter for xrliEeonduct.— rlt was resolved to refer the matter to the Cromwell Club to investigate. Mr J. B. Ford, Hetldon Bush, wrote complaining about the treatment he received at the hands of the stewards of the Wairio ffockey. Club in dealing with a protest lodged by him at their late meeting.— It $as decided to refer the matter to the Tairio Club for explanation. | The Waikouaiti Racing Club reported 4}iat they had suspended the jockeys Gilbert 'MaeLean and John O'Connell for one day for suspicious riding at their meeting on January 1. — Noted. * •On the application of the North Otago uockey Club, J. Burns and the horse Cannonitc were placed on the forfeit list for £1 15s, fees due. A letter- was received from the Early Settlers' Association thanking the club for granting the use of the Wingatui course for their picnic on February 13.— Received. An application was received from Thomas •Buddicomb for a grant from the Jockeys' Fund on account of injuries received while riding at the Wyndham meeting. A similar application was received from L. S. Lloyd on account of injuries received while riding at Wairio. — It was resolved to grant £1 a week for eight weeks in both caseß. ' An application for a license was received from James Rae. — Resolved that the application be granted if his employer certified to its correctness." ' The application of James Hendricks for a jockey's license was refused. .'lt was arranged in connection with the iortheominjr Cup meeting that the first race should start each day at 12.30, and the last at 5.15 p.m., and that bo.a totalisators be worked at £1 tickets. The tender of the Navals Band for -the meeting was accepted. Twenty-one new members were elected. The match between Manawatu and Wellington resulted m a good exhibition of polo.
