The Right Hon. the Premier, with the consent of the Imperial authorities, has decided that the camp for the South Island! battalion of the ninth contingent shall he formed at Tahuna Park, where the men w ill remain while bciug equipped. The troop-» aip 1o take them away will come to Port; lalmers, and Otago will therefore have the honour of giving a send-oflf to our boys. The North Island battalion will be mobilised at and sent away from Auckland. Timaru put in a claim for the honour o£ giving the ninth contingent a fitting sendoff.
It is likely that the conditions of enlistment will be revised in. respect to the ninthcontingent, so as to give a chance to met* who, while otheiwise desirable, have failed to come quite up to the minimum height. Mr Seddon intends to get this coitingent embarked by the end of February. Lieutenant-colonel Headland, corrnnandir.g the North Otago district, has applied for a commission in the ninth contingent.
