NORTH OTAGO.

January 20. — Harvest will be two or three <»ecks' kter than usual th'« yea»\ Nexerthcles-, Hip crops all over the district ?re \ery satis'actorv. I know of one instance in winch sto^k was turned on to the crop be foi c the ra 11 ,'jr.ip, but the ownei thought better of it, to Mip stock was taken off, and theie is r.o,v a pro-ni-e of 30 bushels per acre lam sorry to s.-y ili.il a few patches of \. licit h'\e bern rtt .eked 0\ the Ifcbsian fK but not to any great extent o far. The out cioj? is looking Siileudid. lui-

nips and Toot crops generally are above the average. The creameries are all getting a full supply of milk, and the grass is very plentiful everywhere. Lambs. — Fat lambs are not plentiful yet, and I ifancy the grass rushing up &o quickly will probably scour the lambs ar.d keep them back for a time. Usually before this time thousands of fat lambs are being sent away, but possibly an off season might benefit the colony at large, as, generally speaking, the best of the lambs are ewe lambs.

Cycling. — There is every prospect of the =Low grounds cycling track being much impro\ cd before next season. The various societies have come to the conclusion that without cycling events sports are rather tame, and the present track is certainly dangerous for fast riding.

Pipe Band — By the t.me next year's Caledonian Society holds its annual meeting Oamarv will have a pipe bind. There is r.o question but that much of the .success of the recent meeting was due to the Southland Band.
