CLYDE.

January 18. — Yesterday (Friday) the members ol the Clyde Rifle Club held their first practice with the- Martini-Enfield rifle at distances of 300 yds and 400 yds. The range was duly opened by Mrs Pitches, of Clyde, who succeeded in scoring a bull'e-eyf at the 300 yds distance, an achievement which won for that lady the applause of the clubmen, many of whom failed in following such an excellent example. The shooting was fairly good ajl round. Mr H. SaunSers securing top score with 32 points out of a possible 40, the conditions being five shots at each of the two 'distances, without a sighter. Mr Barry secured second place with 31 points, .Mr Welsford being a good third with 30. The range was favourably commented on by those present, and but foi a prevailing tricky wind the scores would have been beyond creditable. Mr Thompson had charge of the firing party.
