NELSON SPEAKS. (Per United Press Association.) NELSON, January 17.
At the City Council meeting to-night the Mayor (Mi Baigent) raid he referred with paiii to the gross slanders and libels upon the nation that had emanated from the people and pre-s of a European countiy, and c-pecially to the cb-?usting attack on the Queen, which was enough to make the blood of every Biiton boil. He thought' it their duty to uphold the honour of the nation, and moved — " That this council demres to place on recard its indignation at the gross and baseless libels on Home and colonial foop« recently published in foreign newspaper", and it^ admiration of the firm and dignified attitude of the Tmp rial Gi;\ernnieiH with rcfeipnc-p to fie South Afiican war." The rcolution was carried unanimously and with applause.
