HIDE MARKET

Messrs "Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows : We held our fortnightly sale on Friday, •when we offered a fajr-sized catalogue, in ali some 40 odd lots. The demand was not so good as of late, and prices were distinctly easier, say fully Jd per lb. Still, notwithstanding this decline, returns to vendors are veiy satisfactory. We quote values this v-^ek as follows. — Prime ox, 4Jd to 5d per lb , ordinary do, 4d to 4_d ; light do, 3Jd to 3id , prime cow, 3£d to 4d; ordinary do, 3£d to 3{jd, light do, 2£d to 3Jd; calfskins and yearlings, lOd to 4s lOd each.

Messrs Stronach Bros, and Moms report having held their usual fortnightly sale of hides on Friday, 17th inst., when tlxej offered a very large catalogue, comprising 240 hides and calfskins. The attendance was rather sninHer than usual, and the extreme prices ruling during the last month were barely maintained — in fact, in some instances -a drop of Jd per lb was experienced. Our best prices were 5Jd for ox hides, and for cows 4Jd, the former price being obtained for two lots forwarded by country butchers. Values ruling yesterday may be quoted as follows- — Prime ox, 4^d to sid per lb; medium do, 4d to -igd ; light do, 3d to 3gd , prime cows, 3Jd to 4Jd ; medium do, 3d to 3gd , light do, 2Jd to 2_d. Calfskins sold extremely well at from lOd up to 3s 7d.
