Messrs Donald Reid and Co. (Limited) report having held their weekly auction sale of grain and produce at their stores on Monday. The bulk of the catalogue consisted of chaff and potatoes, for which there was moderate competition. Prices ruled as follows — Oats.— All sorts meet with good inquiry, but the quantity on offer is practically nil. A few lots of medium quality are coming forward, and find ready buyers at quotations. Potatoes. — The market has been much oversupplied, and it has been impossible to maintain values, particularly as most consignments are not in condition for keeping, and have to be quitted at once. With steadier supplies we hope to see some improvement in prices. We quote : Best kidneys, £2 10s to £3 ; medium and other sorts, £1 15b to £2 5s per ton (sacks in).
Chaff. — Consignments have been coming freely to hand. Most of these are of medium quality, for which there is little inquiry. Prime oaten sheaf continues to meet with good demand at late values.
