The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company 1 * Waiwera, from London, via the Cane and: Hobart, arrived at Wellington on Tuesday, morning. Passengers for Dunedin: Messrs A. Hogg, and Simpson, Mrs Sin^son. The Waiwera, which vessel arrived at Wellington on Tuesday, left London on October 24, Plymouth on the 26th, Teneriffe on November 1, arrived in Tabla Bay at midnight c«i the 18th, left for Hobart on/ the afternoor of the 19th. Th« passage, from a weather point of view! was a fine one. Two days after, leaving Capetown an exciting incident occurred, a seaman nam^d Burt falling overboard from the ship's side. Fortunately *h« weather was fine, and ioat in charge of the second officer was quickly upon the.gceae,, and the man rescued and cut aboard? the ship, attain in about 20 minutes from the time of his falling overboard. It is a. singular coincidence- that a similar incident occurred on the passage of the Sha-.v, Savill, and Albion liner the Delphic. Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have been advised that the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's Aotea sailed from Capetown, 'Oil the evening of the 18th inst., in continuation of her voyage to Auckland. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Oompany'9 Karamea sailed from London on Friday last for Wellington and Lyttelton. STRUCK BY LIGHTNING. AUCKLAND, December 21.—During a heavy thunderstorm on Thursday Captain Sellars, of the scow Ranger, was struck by lightning. One arm was paralysed for the day. The vessel was caught in a 6torm off Whangarei, and had an exciting experiencefor some hours, but got through safely. SLIGHT ACCIDENT ON THE PvOTOMAHANA. Owing to the bending of the low-pressure connecting rod, the Rotomahana came to a stop during her journey from Wellington to Lyttelton on Friday night. The mishap occurred about half way down, The Maravoa was in sight of the Rotomahana at the' time, and she was signalled to come alongside, which she did. After four hours' and; a-half delay the Hotomahana's engineers repaired the rod sufficiently well to allow the boat to proceed slowly The Mararoa, in . view of the possibility of the rod giving way, stood by the Rotomahana right down. As a result of the accident both boats, which should have reached Lyttelton in time for the passengers and mails catching the exprcs leaving Christchurch for Duneclin at 11 o'clock, did not get to the port till about 3.50. Thi3, as may be expected, cavised considerable inconvenienca to many of the passengers. Some, who had anticipated getting the Monowai in Dunedin, and went on in the Mararoa in this expectatic«, had the chagrin of passing the former boat at Port Chalmers on her way out. The steamer Twickenham sailed from tho Bluft for Durban on Monday evening, shipped some 40,000 bags of oats at the southern port. At Lyttelton the vessel loaded a similar cargo —47,ooo bags of oats. The following vessels have been in harbour during the past week: —Arrivals —Tutanekai, s.s., 412 tons; Corinna, «.s., 820; Moura, ? s., 1247; Kini, s.s., 702; Invercargill, s.e., 123; Hawea, s.s., 1114; Monowai, s.s., 2137: Frank Guy, brigautine, 211: —total, 8336 tons, pejmrtures —Tutanekai, s.s., 412; InvercargiU. s.s., 123; Rimu, s.s., 143; Upolu, 100; Talune, s.s.. 1370; Signe, barque. 698; Corinaa, s.s., 820; Te Ana.i, s.s., 102&: Monowai, 5.&., 2187; Annie Hill, •schooner, 121;— total, 7552 tons. — London has 56 parks and gardens of from one-fourth of an acre to 198 acres, and 30 open spaces and commons froir> me to 267 acres in size. — St. Frideswide's Oliurch, Poplar, has been enriched by an interesting gift, wluchi is probably unique in England. It is an. altar-cloth valued at more than 2000gs, which, like Penelope's web, has taken 10 years tr manufacture and is partly woven of human hair.
