OUR SEVENTH CONTINGENT. CHRISTCHURCH, August 9.

The Premier has received the following cable from Colonel Porter, in command of the seventh contingent in South Africa : — "In the doctor's hands from a horse accident in the field ; nothing serious. The contingent is at Kroonstad. I expect to lejoin at Bloemfontein for the next trek. Mobt successful engagement. Surprised and captured -by contingent during the month: Prisoners, 51 ; rifles, 50 ; ammunition, 13,000 rounds ; waggons, 84 ; carte, 37 ; cattle, 4000 : horses. 300 ; sheep 1000 ; forage and mealies. 70 tons. Boer women and children removed to concentration camps, 600 ; Kaffirs. 500. No fresh casualties, and all are w ell.*'
