A LUNCHEON IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, July 16.
The officers and men of the fourth ancll fifth contingents were entertained afc luncheon to-day by the citizens of Wellington, the Mayor presiding. Amongst tho 0e piesent were the Premier and Mrs Seddon, Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, the Hons. C. H. Mills and J Carroll. The hall was gaily decked with bunting, and there was a, large attendance of troops. The customary toasts were proposed and enthusiastically honoured, that o£ the "Returned Troopers" being proposed by the Premier. During the proceedings a corporal of the Fifth presented the Premier with a kaross, or rug,, composed of silver |ackal skins. He ev>
plained that when they arrived at Mafeking the New Zealand battalion, which he represented, took part in some sports, and after winning everything, a Mr Mulilenbeck took them to his house and entertained them. He had five sons fighting against the Boers. He expressed his high esteem for the Premier, and desired them to present this kaross to him, with his best wishes for his continued success.
