WELCOME TO TROOPER M'LENNAN.
On Tuesday the people of AA'eclderburn welcomed back Lieutenant M'Lennan, who joined i the fourth contingent as a trooper, but was subsequently transferred to the fifth contingent, and given the position of lieutenant. On hi« arrival at "Wefldcrbtirn- station, Lieutenant M'Lonnan was met by the residents of the * district, among whom were the school children c&rrving flags. Mr John M'Kay spoke a few words of welcome on behalf o£ fliose present. In the evening he wa=i entertained at a dinner in the Wedderbuin Hotel. About 75 persons j were present, including a number of residents of Naseby, and Troopers Beath and White, i After the dinner a smoke concert was held, and J at this Mr luder (the Mayor of Naseby) piesented Lieutenant M'Lennan, on behalf of the residents of the district, with a gold medal. The ceiemoiiy of nuu.uig it on was perfoimed by his own mother, and this little incident was veiy affecting. Some excellent speeches were made during the evening, the speakers ! '>eing Dr Church, Messrs A. L. Herdman, Ei j C Cutten, Ginsberg, F. Francis, and Captain \ Logan. Musical items were given by Messrs Vellis, Roberts, O'Driscoll, Travers, and J. M'Kay, the iirst npmed gentleman also playing , the accompaniments.
