THE LATE GUNNER KENDALL.
(From: Our Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, July 20. The returned troopers to New Zealand of the fourth and fifth contingents paid their last tribute of Tespect to-day to their deceased comrade, the late Gunner Arthur P. Kendall (formerly of Hokianga-) of the fifth, contingent, who died on the' troopship Tagus last week. The embalmed remains of the dead soldier ■were taken down to the railway station at 11.30 this morning from Mr C. Little's establishment in Hobson street, and were then taken out to Onehunga and shipped on the s.s. Glenelg for Hokianga, where the burial will take place. About^.3o troopers of the fourth and fifth contingents escorted the rern?ine to the railway station, matching on either side of the hearse. A number of other Natives were present, and several returned troopers iv plain clothes also attended and joined in the cortege. A number of beautiful wreaths were, placed on the coffin. Mr Kendall, the deceased's father, irad his mother and several rther relatives, ■who had come to town, left in the Glenelg, taking the remains with them to Hokianga, where a military funeral will take place.
