CANTERBURY.

A young man named Peter Dunn t*.tcharged at the S.M. Court, Chri&tchurth, on the 16th with writing a letter threatening to kill Kliz. Woodbury. The parties had been on friendly terms for over tv o years, an-d were supposed to be engaged. The girl broke the friendship off. and went out with another man. ' Accused then wrote a letter threatening to blow her brains out. Dunn, pleaded guilty, after evidence had beep taken, but disclaimed any serious intention. The magistrate said that he would not think of dealing Aiith the case, and Dunn wt;s remanded to the Supreme Court for sentence, ba.il being allowed.

At the poll of shareholders of the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association to-day the result was in favour of the directors' proposal for a new issue of 2000 shares at 5s premium, £1 paid up, as against an amendment of an issue of 2000 shares at 8s premium, £1 paid up. Mr C. Napier Bell, the well-known marine engineer, is seriously ill.
