The members of the Scenery Preservation Society and other enthusiasts had a busy day on Wednesday planting trees in celebration of Arbor % D.iy. About 1600 tiees were planted.
The Wellington Harbour Board at its last meeting decided to become its own insurance agent, but to-day resolved to insure its employees in one of the accident insurance offices.
The railway traffic returns for the month ended June 22 show, as compared with the corresponding penod of last year, an increase of 14,994 xia&sengers and £18,370 of revenue. ■"
The electric tablet system, to ensure safe running of trains between stations, is just being brought into operation on the section from Wellington to the Hutt, and will gradually be extendad to other lines. Charles Roe, sen., an old colonist, died at his residence at iFeilding on Monday. Deceased arrived in Wellington by the ship Adelaide in 1840. He was one of Wellington's earliest journalists, having been pait proprietor of the defunct Advertiser for some time. He went to Feilding in 1874,
and had resided there since
James Collins, of Rimutaka, was fined £5 at the Magistrate's Court ior failing to continue to destroy the rabbits on his property.
