There are a number of very enthusiastic fanciers in the immediate neighbourhood of Gore. Mention of the names of Messrs G. E. Wharton. Domigan, and Ward, whose pens of fowls and dogs 'have been mentioned in these columns, need -only be made to prove to our readers that they will meet foemen worthy of -their steel in Gore. The club wisely affiliated with the metropolitan societies, and are Holding their first show under the New Zealand Poultry Association (South Island) ami New Zealand Kennel Club rules. — The Maniotoio Fanciers' Club's first show will be held on the 14th August, instead of on the- 7t'h, as pre\ lously announced. Mi James Kirby, the energetic lion, secretary, whilst attending the Dunedin exhibition, did his utmost io further the interests of his own show, impressing upon all fanciers whom he could buttonhole their duty in relation to country fixtures. It is to be hoped that the fir-t effort of our Xascby friends will prove encouraging.

— Dear Terror. — Will you kindly give me a cure for a retriever dog, the tip of whose tail ie always raw and bleeding, caused by hitting it against the floor and pther things. Whpn he is hunting, it is so sore that he erie« out with pain. I have wrapped it up, put vaseline on it. etc.. but nothing makes any difference. If pait of che tail were cut off to make it short, would it hurt the dog too much? He is throe years old, or more. — I am. etc., Ax Old -Subscmbeb.

[Vaseline is no good in this case. Keep the dog chained free of obstacles so that he cannot knock his tai'. Wash the tail with .Tnve's fluid, dip, or other similar wash, lmtil heaed Du'-ting with iodoform woud as«ist. Cutting would be ineffectual, a. Ithe tendency of the clog to wag a- tail would continue.— Tekror. |
