FOUND DEAD IN THE BOTANICAL GARDENS.
W hat ha« every appearance of being- a ca-c of suicide ocemved at the Botanical. Garden- some time early on F) kLiy morning a irau named Carl le Doux, aged about o<Jyears, being f<,und lying there by a, .Mr John Curie at 11.30 a.m. The body was. varm. and it ua<. evident that de..th had only taken place a hhort time previously. A bottle containing a liquid was found in the er»at pocket of the man, and an emnty gla»> \rasi lying by his aide, but there was no sign cf anj struggle. Dr Martin examined the body, upon which he found no marks of violence, and ga\e it at> his opinion that it was a oa«e of nuicidc. A letter was found on the person oi deceased, addre^ed to Mr Palmer, ot Wain's Hotel, where deceased had stajecl, and where no v. as last been alive on. the evening of the 19th inst. It would appear that deceased was nhort of money, and thib is confirmed by the fact that he was unable to pay his board at the hotel. He camo here from Hobart, and it is believed that his father lives m London. He told Mr Palmer that his luggage had been s,ent to Auckland Deceased was connected with the engineering tiude.
