COURSING.

The annual meeting of the South Island Coursing Club was held at Oamaru last week (says the North Otago Times), the attendance being fair. The balance sheet showed that the receipts amounted to £352 2s 6d. and the expenditure to £314- 163 4d, including the Challenge Stake, 1901, leaving in hand £37 6s 2d, a position which was considered very satisfactory, as the club had commenced the year with nothing at all ; while there waa now a substantial balance, in addition to which they had assets worth £40. The secretary was voted a donation of £5 5s in recognition of his services on behalf of the club Mr 3. Cameron was elected president, Mr P. J. Duggan secretary, Mr J. R. Sewell treasurer, and Mr Connolly slipper. At a meeting of the committee, it was unanimously decided to ask Mr R. .7. Mason, of Yaldhurst, Christchurch, to act as iudge for the club. A Sydney cable states that Master won the Waterloo Coureing Cup, with Licorice runner-up. Braddon's Blot won the Purse, with Claremonfc runner-up. Clarence Mungan won the Plate, with Loch Dhu runnerup.

The Mount Benger Mail understands that Mr James Bennet, member for Tuapeka, has received word from the Minister of Public Works that the Government intend to continue the construction of the Heriot lino in the direction in which they have started. There are at present some 60 men employed on the work, so that good progress should now be made.
