NOTES FROM ROXBURGH. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
•ROXBURGH, June 24.
The river has'been going up and down during the week, i,o the exasperation of dredge*men and the many others interested , but on Sunday a satisfactory fall was i oticecl. If the river continues to fall in a similar manner for the Jiext few clays dredging can be generally ros-urned.
The Golden Bed dredge had another very good return for the week — about 3Soz. Tho ground is very even.
Tho return from the Golden Run dredge is a l so very fair.
Ihe annual meeting of tho Golden Gate Dredging Company takes place in Dunedin next Thiu-pdjy.
Some alterations to the Gibb's Beach dredge aro not yet completed, but will be so mo&t piobably by the tune the river is at a convenient level for dredging. lam also informed that she is going to start to-day. I do not know which statement is collect.
The fat tm g-up of the Excelsior machinery is progressing satisfactorily. The screen, top tumbier, bi.^kcl for ladder shaft, and the elcvftoi «ear .ire u\ position. The laddei and rcndeaspi* arc also on board.
A «ood poition ol the naachmeiv for the. Etluck diedge js on the ground, and a large quantity is lysiig at liKwrejicp.
Tho Moa Flat and Gold Queen dredges will resume as boou as the river falls sufficiently.
The Goid King dredge will be icady for the machinery very shorty.
The Endeavom diedgc is fast approaching completion. The contractoi i* waiting for the boiler.
T have nothing ficsh to report le the Jubilee, Golden Elbow, Golden Chain, and Coal Cieek di edges.
The Tieviot dredge has anived at the lower end of her claim, and is -waiting £oi the riser to fall.
The contiactor is advancing fcatisfactonly with the election of the Gold Deposit machuierv.
The diedgemastei of the Long, V«tllry dredge expect* to start veiy soon.
As a result of a raid made at Brooklyn by secret service agents, the plates for makin o counterfeit £20 notes of the Bank of Scotland, which the British detective service has been vainly seeking for years, were secuneiL.
