The Inspector ot Works reported that considerable damage had been done to the Lower Harboui road, the walling having been washed! out and other damage done , the estimated cost of repairs being £300.— The matter was refened to the member for the district to endeavour to get the Go\ eminent to undertake fie work. — r lhe report re Mr Torry's application for uglit-of-way was received. — Repoit ie> Round Hill load and Pryde's mad — estimated co^t £11C — Wtvs received, and it was lcsolved that tenders b& cahed for the woik. Mr E. G. Allen, M.H.R., wiote consenting tfi act as delegate 1 at the Counties Association's Conference at Wellington. — Received. The West Haibour Borough Council wrote regarding complaints of bush and sciub overhanging the bour.daiy load.— lnspector to attend to the matter. The Karita-ne~Doinam Board wiote concerning moneys due by the council. — Received. Mr William Jennings and 46 others wioto requesting tbe council to repair the Ahirdeiing Beach road.— To be forwarded to the member for the electorate with a request for assist* ance in the matter. Mr D. O'Connell and 38 others wrote concerning the removal of a ifence on the Seachff School reserve.— The council signified their readiness to do certain road formation, and instructed the clerk to inform the school committee that they would be required to remove the fence back as soon as the formation is ccmplcted. The Westland County Council wrote makingcertain recommendations with regard to the Local Authorities Bill.— Letter received, and a. special meeting to be called on July 5 to consider the matter. The Treasury department, Wellington, ivrote asking for a statement of receipts SUld expenditure for the year ended March 31 last.— lnfor* mation to be supplied. Mr P. Toomey wiote objecting to the grant* rag of a slaughtering license to Messrs Cunningham and Fell.— The council, after examining"^ locality where the slaughtering was to be done, failed to see any objection to a, license being granted. The Department of Health wrote concerning the destruction of rats by the council.— The communication was received. Messrs GilnKmr Bros, wrote re deviation of road through section 40, block 11, Waikouaiti, and enclosed a letter from Mr Peter Kan a agreeing to the deviation. — Received, the inspector and Cr Porteous to visit the locality, and report to next meeting. Mr G. E. Charlton wrote lequesting the council to repair the road between the Seachff School corner and the railway siding.— The inspector was instructed to attend to the matter. It was decided that sundry small amounts for overdue rates be written off. It was resolved to instruct the inspector t have two chains of metalling done as requested by Mr E. Mickelson. It was resolved that Mr Jones be notified that the couucil is agreeable to hand over to him. the old road in lieii of land for a new one running through sections 88, 63, 62, and 89, block I, Waikouaiti. The Council resolved to place on recoid their appreciation of the fact of the premises of the Bank of New Zealand being opened for the transaction of business twice a week in place of once, as formerly. It was resolved, in response to an application fiom Mr H. S. Orbell, that some ci the " fourths " accruing from his small-grazing run 171, Humniockside, be expended," as asked by him, and that tenders bs called for the. work. It was resolved that the council convey to SirJoseph Ward and Sir John M'Kenzie their hearty congratulations at the distinguished honours conferred upon them ; also their pleasure that the valuable seivices rendeied by these gentlemen to the colony had been recognised by his Majesty the King. It was resolved that Mr Gow, of Palmerston, ba thanked for- his generosity in donating gravel for the Main North i-oad. The following tenders were accepted • — Supply of 75yds metal on Love's road, Blueskm v Mr D. M'Lachlan, at 5s per yard (£lB 15s) ; supply of 40yds metal for the Quarry road, Blueskin, Mr" H. Bland, at 6s per yard (£12) ; supply of 210 yds gravel for Wilson's road, Hawkesbury (subject to certain conditions), Mr R. Stringer, at Is 2d per yaid (£l9 14a lid); supply of 1200 yds sravel for the Main road. Mr T. Hourston, at 3s lOd per yard (£230). Accounts were nassed for payment amounting to £350 2s 9d.
