WALTON PARK.
An enteitainment was given in the AYalton Schoolhouse on Friday evening in aid of the Sunday school funds. In the unavoidable absence of the Rev. Dr Watt, who sent an apology, Mr James Louden occupied the chair, and, considering the unfavourable weather, there was a fair attendance. The programme consisted of choruses, songs, recitations, and an address, each ltern being heartily applauded. Songs were given by Miss Jessie Loudon, " The doctor " ; Mr C. Cook, '" Ora pic nobis " ; J. B. Mason, "He wipes the tear " (who accompanied- himself on a zither harp) ; while the Misses C. W. and F. Loudon rendered a duet entitled " The sweet message." Recitations were given by Miss Westfield, "His Mother's Songs"; Miss Mills "The Wreck of the London " . and Master E. Cooke " Grumble Cornei ' A'l efficient choir, under tke baton of Mr D S. Mason, sang " Hcsamu, ' " Behold the armies, ' " On, one and all." " Children's praise," " Childien's day," and " Hear the trumpet." A quartet party consisting of the Misses J. and M. Loudon and Messrs Cook and Mason completed the programme by snigmg " Sweet and low." During the evening the Rev. J. Guy, of Dnndas stieet Church, gave a short address on " The Sunday School in Relation tc the Home " He referred to the original function of the Sunday school when the teachers were required to teach the scholars how to read and write, and briefly traced the life of the Sunday school up to the present time. The lecture* impressed on tlie parents the duty they owed not only to the teachers but tc society m assisting the children to prepare their lessons, and also m seeing that they attended the Sunday school regulaily. On the motion oi Ihe chairman hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Guy and the others who had assisted in making tbe enteitainment a success.
