CONGRATULATIONS AND REPLIES.
His Worship the Mayor (Mr G. L. Dennisten) on Wednesday telegrapncd hearty congratulations to Sir John M'Kenzie and Sir Joseph G. Ward on Hi: occasion of their being created K.C.MJ.V*. A reply wa>= received from Sir Joseph Ward sincerely thanking his Worship for his telegram. Congratulatory telegrams were sent by hi: Wor«bip the Mayoi of Port Chalmers (Mi J. Mill) to Sir J. G Ward and Sir John M'Kenzie. K.C.M.G.'s, on their prefermeni o - i Wednesday. A similar compliment was paid to the Kail of Ranfurlj through hif aide de camp (Captain Alexand r). An ap preciathe reply wa* leceived from Sir J. G. Ward. Messrs D. M'Pherson and R Mackenzie, chieftains of the Gaelic Society of New Zealand have sent the following congratulatory telegiam to Sir John M'Kenzie. chief of the >ntiety : — "Hearty congratulations on reccninff the viell-iherited honour of knighthood." Congratulations have poured in on Sir John M'Kenzie and Sir J. G Ward from all parts of the colony. At the meeting of the Education Board the following resolution, moved by Mr P. 13. Fraser and seconded by Mr W. Nicolfton, was carried unanimously: — ''That a telegram be sent to the Hon. Sir John M'Kenzie, formerly a prominent member of the board, and long a strenuous servant of T:he colony as Minister of Lands, conveying the boaidV congratulations on the recent honours conferred on him, and on restored health." The follo'.viiif- wa« received fi'om .S:i Joseph Ward in reply to a congratulatory telegram sent by the Duned'n telegraph stalf immediately the news was received from Wellington:—".]. G. Dunedin. — Kindly convey to Dunedin telegraph staff and accept ycurselt my waimefct regards and great appreciation of the kindly sentiments conveyed m your wire. Among the gond wishes of the many who are communicating with me. T ran assure you that none will bo more highly appreciated than those coming from the officers of the old department in which I once served, and I wish you, one and all, e^ery happiness-." Mr J.
