SCHOOL COMMETTEE REPORT. PUKEIWITAHI.
In presenting thpir annual renoit for the year 19000901 the Pukeiwitahi School Committee state that during the year they haveplaced a ,creen aiound the outhouses, dug a. dram at the bick of the school, and improved the front, leaving to their succes-ors the work of pai ltirg the inside, which is veiy badly needed. Through the committee's representation, the school has been supplied by the Education Boaid with fenders, a globe, and several maps. In Auaust Mr "Weston resigned from the committee, Mr J. Stevenson being appointed to fill the vacancy. During the year the committee* started a fund lor providing appliances for teaching the cliildien science and gymnastics, the tund now standing at £& 9s. During the winter months the committee gave Mr Mathe-.vs the use of the school three evenings a week for tho night school and ambulance classes. The former was a great success, but the latter did not me&t the support it deserved, consideung the spirit m which it was giver. The who'c of the fee 3 from both classes Mr Mathews handed over to the committ-en to ircrease the science fund. The committee think _ Mr Mathews is entitled to the thanks of tho heads of famihes and householders for his efforts to help the young men in tne n^iodirection
The annual examination was held in S oternber by Inspectors Goyen and R:ch'ucl-on, and the result was highly cieclitable to the staff arid pupils, being the bps'- th* school has obtained for a number of years. Standard IV showed up very prominently throughout the whole examination. For order, manners, and attention the school scoied the "excellent" maiks — one of the highest honouis a .school ca«. attain. A .successful concert was he'd during ihe yea:, the Shag Point Hall Committee kind I,'1 ,' granting the usp of ths hill for the O-'CuSici. Attendance prizes were given acoon'mr < to the ie»ulanty of attendance.
